The injury occurred as Hutchinson was in the process of sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. While pulling Prescott down, Hutchinson’s left leg collided with the leg of his teammate, Alim McNeill, resulting in a fracture just above the ankle. He was immediately attended to by medical personnel, and after being placed in an air cast, Hutchinson was carted off the field.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell expressed sympathy for the Pro Bowl defender, emphasizing the emotional and physical toll of losing such a key player. “Hate it for Hutch. That's tough,” Campbell said in a post-game interview. “He’s in good hands now, but obviously he’s going to be down for a little while. It’s hard when you lose somebody like him.”
